Instituto Experimental: Referente en modelos de aprendizaje y excelencia educativa en Barranquilla

Instituto Experimental: A reference in learning models and educational excellence in Barranquilla.

The Instituto Experimental del Atlántico, José Celestino Mutis, has established itself for 54 years as a benchmark of academic excellence in Barranquilla and the country. Founded in 1970 by Professor Alberto Assa, the institute has been a pioneer in offering a diversified and multilingual education, which has allowed its graduates to access the best university and job opportunities.

The training of the Institute’s students is based on a comprehensive approach, which encompasses the sciences, arts and humanities, under a differentiated learning model. This has allowed the institution to distinguish itself as a reference in the region for the implementation of good educational practices.

“The special thing about the Experimental School is the comprehensive education it provides. It is the only school in the country that has this educational model and it makes our graduates stand out from those of other institutions,” said Antonio Martínez, rector of the Instituto Experimental del Atlántico.

With 886 graduates by 2024, 98% of the Institute’s students access higher education, while 2% opt for technical training, entrepreneurship or new job opportunities. In addition, 51% of the graduates obtain scholarships at the national and international level; while 39% enter public universities and 10% enter private institutions.

“The training that the Institution has given me will be of great help for my future, because it has forged me as an individual who has his own opinion and who will be useful to society. I want to study economics, do my undergraduate degree in the country, but then specialize abroad”, Estefany Torres, 11th grade student of the Institution.

Despite not being an official school, the Institute offers free education, thanks to the contributions of private entities such as Fundación Gases del Caribe, Fundación Santo Domingo and Fundación Promigas . In addition, 80% of the teachers are former students who, in gratitude to the institution that trained them, donate their time and knowledge for teaching.

“At Gases del Caribe we firmly believe in education as an engine for development. Our support to the Instituto Experimental del Atlántico is a way of contributing to the formation of future generations who will be the leaders of tomorrow,” commented Diana Santiago, director of Fundación Gases del Caribe.

However, in order for the Institute to continue to provide quality education and maintain its commitment to the integral formation of its students, it is necessary to modernize its facilities and adapt its spaces to the new technological and pedagogical demands of the 21st century.

At the Santo Domingo Foundation we are convinced that education is the path to social transformation. Through our alliances, we seek that more young people in Barranquilla have access to quality education. To continue with this process, we need more allies to join us in this cause. “said José Bedoya, director of the Barranquilla – Atlántico Territory of the Santo Domingo Foundation.

Marcela Dávila, executive director of Fundación Promigas, said, “At Promigas and Fundación Promigas, we believe that education is the transforming energy that drives the sustainable development of the territories. Accompanying the Instituto Experimental means supporting a unique pedagogical model, which has demonstrated with results its capacity to form global and committed citizens. We are honored to be part of this history for 18 years, and we will continue to join efforts to leave a lasting social footprint in the lives of these young people and in the future of Barranquilla”.

The modernization of spaces and the implementation of new technologies will only be possible with the support of more entities committed to quality education. The Instituto Experimental del Atlántico remains committed to the formation of global citizens, prepared to face the challenges of an ever-changing world.

“No there will be development without education ni progress without culture.

-Alberto Assa.
